A great dropper (I've seen it fished successfully as a primary fly, too) deloped by John Wilson.

As low as $1.19

John Wilson (a legendary guide on the White River) developed this pattern. Most fly fishermen fish this as a dropper under another fly. Traditionally, the primary fly (first one attached to the leader) is a dry fly.

Dad Recommends

If you're fishing the Spring or the White, and aren't having any success on your primary fly, add Trout Crack as a dropper. I have also had good results fishing this fly with a woolly bugger as the lead fly.

How to Rig a Dropper

Tie a length of tippet material (4x or 5x usually) on the gape of the primary fly hook. Depending on the depth of the water and how you're fishing the primary fly, use a length of 18-22 inches. If you're fishing a dry on top, the dry serves as a strike indicator for the dropper.
