Chenille is used as body material to increase bulk on a variety of flies including the Woollly Bugger and Bitch Creek Nymph. It can be wound around the hook shaft (as in the bugger or braided as in the Bitch Creek Nymph).
The most popular colors are black and olive, although florescents are also popular.
