Keough's Tyer's Grade Cape

Bill Keough's Tyer's Grade Cape is an excellent cape at a good price. A wide range of feathers from 2 down to 22 with a concentration of feathers in the sweet spot of 12-18. If you are tying a wide range of flies and need the variety that a Cape provides, here's an excellent answer at a bargain price.

The stems are flexible, barbs are stiff, and there is very little webbing on these feathers. All in all, an excellent cape to replace more expensive and less flexible capes.

Try a Keough's Tyer's Grade and you'll find a better cape for your money.

Dad Says

Cape or saddle? Which one should you choose. A good cape will have a larger range of feather sizes, allowing you to tie from a 2 or 4 down to a 22. If you need smaller sizes, generally the specialty packs that have only 20, 22, 24, etc. will be a more economical purchase.

A saddle has more feathers in the mid range, with most saddles concentrated in the 3 or 4 sizes. Many pelts will contain feathers in the range of 12 to 16. That's not to say that a saddle does not have larger or smaller feathers, just that you'll get more of the mid range. Saddle feathers can also be longer because of where they come from on the pelt. If you visualize the area covered by a saddle on a horse, that's where the saddle comes from.
