Prism Dubbed Foam Beetle with Grizzly Legs

A quite good imitation of a beetle. With peacock colored ice dubbing as the body, this fly resembles any of a number of hard-shelled insects that might land in the water of your favorite stream or lake. This version uses Grizzly legs to add a bit of style; we also have a version that includes thin, black, floppy round rubber legs that resemble any of a host of bugs.

Fishing the Prism Dubbed Foam Beetle

Fish the beetle as a normal dry fly in the surface film. On calmer waters, the yellow back serves as an indicator. In more turbulent water, you may have trouble seeing strikes unless fish are feeding aggressively. This fly attracts attention when landed with something of a "plop" like a hard-shelled beetle might land because of its weight. Twitch the rod occasionally to give it a bit of action.

Hook - Standard Nymph or Dry Hook Size 12 to 18

Body - Ice Dubbing - Black Peacock

Foam - 2mm Black or Dark Brown Fly Foam

Legs - Silly Legs, Round Legs, or Silicon Legs

Thread - Black 6/0

Indicator - Yellow 2mm Fly Foam
